Polytechnic School of Shenyang Ligong University

  In the past few decades, the original names of the school have been changed several times. With the approval of Liaoning Provincial, its official name is Polytechnic School of Shenyang Ligong University. Now it has turned out to a full-time independent school after gaining the authorization from China's Ministry of Education.

  In September 2007, Polytechnic School of Shenyang Ligong University moved to newly constructed campus and started a new page of its own history. The campus is located in the Economic Development Zone of Fushun City, south of Hunhe River and opposite Shenyang Expo Garden. The campus cover an area of 80 hectares, in which 5 teaching buildings, 12 dormitory buildings, 3 experiment centers, a gymnasium and a library are scattered. The total construction area is 160,000 square meters, among which the gymnasium and the library take 6,680 and 16,500 square meters respectively.

  Relying on the comprehensive advantages of Shenyang Ligong University, the school intends to offer the courses in light of the needs of national economic construction and social development. The teaching faculties include 6 departments---Mechanical Engineering, Vehicle & Traffic Engineering, Information Engineering, Business Administration, Art & Design and Energy Engineering, and 3 teaching divisions---basic sciences and experimental teaching center, military sports and social sciences. Now 22 majors with 4-year programs and 24 majors with 2-3 years programs are offered. 304 teachers are available working as full-time teachers and 56.8% of them have master's degree, among which 23 professors are included. Some qualified teachers are recruited from Shenyang Ligong University. Since 2004, the school began to enroll new students all over China. Now nearly 5,600 students are living on the campus. Number of plan recruit students will be 2,340 in 2008.

  The school's focus is oriented as "giving priority to application, putting the knowledge into practice" and its mission is "building an ideal school for students, parents and the society". The school is employment-oriented and strengthens practical teaching, is devoted to developing skills and fostering skilled talents of high qualities for the society. In addition, the school takes measures to improve the quality of training, follows education and marketing principles, adhere to marketing and academic standards and improve all-round education quality. We continuously promote the projects of teaching quality and teaching reform, strengthen constructions of model majors and fine courses, adopt talent education mode like combining work and study, integrating theory and practice, English level-division etc.

  To meet the social needs, the school strengthens the cooperation between teaching and manufacturing and focuses on building teaching practice bases. At present, the school has two province-level public practice bases - numerical control and mould practice base, IT practice base. There are four training centers-Shenyang Moulding Training Center, IT Talents Training Base, Electronic Industry Special Career Recognition Center, Shenyang Civil Blasting Technology Training Center. Over the years, the school has set up long-term cooperative relationship and signed contacts of ordering cultivation with more than 40 large-size enterprises or institutions like Dongji Group, China FAW Group Corporation, and Huawei Technologies. The annual employment rate of graduates is as high as 90%. Besides, the school is also seeking Sino-foreign cooperative relationships in order to obtain international perspectives. So far it has signed agreements with some universities from UK, Australia, South Korea and other countries, which broadens the channels for graduates to further their studies overseas.

  2008 is the key year in which the school steps into the crucial phase aiming at improving the teaching quality. The students' characteristics and personalities are taken into consideration in promoting their learning styles and promoting teachers' teaching methods. "Integrity, inspiration and ambition" is conducted as the philosophy of work to motive both students and teachers to strive for more progresses and make greater achievement ahead.
